The Magic of the Astro-Berlin Tachonar 35mm f/1

One of my favorite lenses is the Astro-Berlin Tachonar 35mm f/1. It’s an old cine lens that’s been converted to Leica M-mount. On the Leica M’s, it’s not terribly easy to use wide open, given the difficulties of critical focusing at that razor thin a DOF with an optical RF mechanism. That all changed recently when Ricoh introduced the A12 Mount module for the Ricoh GXR. This module takes Leica M-mount lenses (I like to call it the GXR-M) and has something Leica Rangefinders do not – the ability to achieve critical focus by using live view and superb tools to aid in nailing focus. Here’s an image, SOOC with no pp whatsoever. Shot wide open at f/1!

    Hey Raaj
I finally got around to sticking my head in here. First impressions are that it is a visually appealing and clean visage. I do detest cluttered blogs and websites and my zenfoio site is getting that way (too late methinks) so I too will have to trim and stuff.
But I am hesitating ……. and asking myself the reasons I am doing all this photography and posting and engaging on fora, et cetera. I am still looking into my own motivation and drivers. One of those life moments when one stops and examines everything to date. That is what is happening with my photography. To be sure, I absolutely love it. Both the art and the gear side. But something is missing for me.

Anyway, it wasn’t my intention to prattle on so I do apologise.

I shall browse a bit more in here and return with a more meaningful opinion.

    Your friend in Australia

    David
